Armchair Travel to Peru with Charles Bartlett

Mr Bartlett writes “I have always been on the move, even as a child I moved often [lived in Germany between 1952-1955], and then when I was in the Army I had tours in Germany,Viet Nam [twice] andKorea.  After retiring from the Army I worked for a defense contractor located inWaterbury [hence my move to Woodbury]. It was during this period I had the opportunity to do a fair amount of foreign sales…selling howitzers and other military items….going to many countries in Europe, Middle East, and Asia.

Both my wife, Sue, and I discussed visiting Australia and New Zealand and possibly South America…..these objectives of course did not happen. After Sue’s passing, my daughters felt it would be good for me to do something out of the ordinary and encouraged me to plan a trip so I did so, hence the trip to Peru.

Why Peru, because I have always been fascinated about the Inca Culture and the amazing stonework they did, and because I had contacted a long time friend, now living in Florida, who also was interested in going.

We left on May 18th from Miami and returned May 29th.The tour run by Overseas Adventure Travel was small [14] and we visited Lima, Cuzco and several ruins; Macchu-Picchu being the most notable.  We also got to visit an elementary school and partake in local activities, meeting the people, and observing lifestyles. We had a home hosted lunch featuring the Peruvian delicacy…guinea pig!
