Art for the Animals

People like animals for different reasons. There
are some of us who love animals because we look
for some kind of unconditional affection and loyalty from
someone. We do not usually find that kind of loyalty among our human friends.

Then there are those who love animals simply because they are what they are.
They have an innocence about them that is immediately appealing. They are beautiful
creatures, without the corruption that the ability to think and discriminate
brings to our minds. They love us irrespective of who we are, what we do, and
how we act. That kind of acceptance is something we all yearn for, and that is
what draws us to animals.

The Washington Art Association will celebrate our love of
animals with “Art for the Animals”, an exhibition curated by artist and animal
lover, Louise W. King. Nearly 30 artists will share their adoration of the
animal world through paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculpture.

A portion of the proceeds of the work sold will be
donated to the James A. Baker Institute of Animal Health at Cornell University.
The Institute is one of the oldest research centers dedicated to the
study of veterinary infectious diseases, immunology, genetics, and
reproduction. Dr.
Clayton and Georgia Dudley will serve as Honorary Chairs of the exhibition, in
recognition of the tireless work on behalf of the veterinarian
professions and the Institute.

David Behnke, Chairman of the Baker
Institute and Washington resident put it this way:  “Our animals give us so much.  The research at the Baker in cancer,
infectious diseases and genetic is an opportunity to give something important
back to them – healthier and longer lives.
For most pet owners, improving their health is about as good as it gets.”

The exhibition runs from October 26
through November 16. An opening reception on Saturday, October 26th
from 4pm – 6pm. sponsored by Ms. King will feature delicacies from Washington’s
own Norimaki and The Pantry. All are welcome.
