Walk For Substance Abuse Prevention Tonight: Friday, Sept. 7

A Walk for Substance Abuse Prevention, Recovery and Loss will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at .

The rain date is Saturday, Sept. 8.

The walk is sponsored by the Woodbury-Bethlehem Parent Connection, a non-profit support organization designed to educate and empower parents and caregivers with children of any age, who are using or abusing drugs or alcohol, according to the organization's website.

After meeting at Hollow Park, the group will walk to , then back to Hollow Park for a prayer by candlelight. Organizers ask that those who attend bring flashlights.

About Woodbury-Bethlehem Parent Connection

"The Woodbury Bethlehem Parent Connection was formed in memory of Cristina Gomez," the website stated. "This organization honors the memory of all their kids who, due to alcohol or drugs, died much too young."

The Hope & Support group meets weekly on Mondays, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Those seeking more information may call 203-266-0487.

"Our goal is to provide hope and support, in a strictly confidential setting, to those in crisis and assist those to learn to take care of themselves, as well," co-founder and facilitator Lesley Gomez, mother of Cristina Gomez, said via e-mail. "We hope that this organization will being some measure of peace to families in crisis that previously had no where to turn."
