'UFO' Sighting in Woodbury [POLL]

A hovering, glowing red craft paired with a hovering white orb was reportedly seen in Woodbury on Sunday, July 29, 2012. Two people in two different towns also reported seeing something unidentifiable in the sky that night.

On Sunday, July 29, 2012, an unidentified person saw an unidentified flying object in the Woodbury sky and reported the UFO sighting on Ufostalker.com the next day:

"My roommate and his girlfriend went outside our apartment to smoke a cigarette, minutes later his girlfriend rushed dramatically upstairs insisting my girlfriend and I come outside immediately. Upon looking to the north/northwest direction in the night sky, 2 visible and unidentifable [sic] lights were present 1.) red triangular/sphere shape hovered around unlike any identifiable aircraft i've ever seen, it made no noise and no other identified aircraft were visible at this time, beside the red craft seemed to be a white light sphere/orb, smaller than the red craft beside it (my roommate claims that the white orb was originally the same as the red craft beside it and dimmed to a white orb before I made it outside.), it is unsure weather [sic] the sighting was one craft or two crafts attached. I took out my iPhone and filmed for about 15 seconds before I realized the crafts were too far and my digital video was sub par in terms of substantial evidence, however to the naked eye this phenomena was clearly a UFO sighting. after about 10-15 minutes of speculation and astonishment the red craft flickered and dimmed until it was the same color and size of the smaller white orb, at this point it was evident the crafts were trying to conceal themselves, slowly the orbs dimmed into the horizon (this all took place within a 45 minute to an hour period) 7/29/12, WOODBURY CT"

The latitude and longitude given on the UFO Stalker website are latitude  41.53752 and longitude -73.225841. According to Steve Morse's latitude and longitude converter website, the UFO was reportedly seen somewhere in the vicinity of 5 Old Grassy Hill Rd. and 60 Transylvania Rd.

"The latitude and longitude presented here is an approximation to protect the reporters' identity," the UFO Stalker website stated.

A commenter going by the name "Jeff" posted on the Woodbury entry of the reported UFO sighting and said he saw the same lights when driving around Litchfield on Sunday, July 29:

"What I saw was a very bright craft, white lights, that appeared to be hovering like a helicopter. It was pretty probably a couple thousand feet up and I did not pull my car over to see if I could hear anything as I needed to be somewhere."

Of course I believe in UFOs - they're "Unidentified Flying Objects" - I see lots of oddly-shaped aircraft in the skies over Woodbury - just last week, an eight-engined plane flew over my condo (it wasn't a B-52 - checked the silhouette in Jane's). "Unidentified" means just that - you can't identify the object. It doesn't mean it's extraterrestrial in origin, just that you can't figure out what it is. However, I want to believe!

I voted: "No, but I'd like to! ". But it didn't count. Anyways, we cannot be the only ones out here. There has got to be other living beings in this vast universe...

My daughter and I saw a round silver ball type object hovering in the farm area as we drove over Bunker Hill a few years ago. I'm glad she was with me to verify what I was witnessing. We discuss it often because it was so unusual.

I have family members who say they saw a UFO over the field at Memorial Middle School, more than 20 years ago. Also, I added a video to this article, of the Summer Olympics opening ceremony - a recent possible UFO sighting generating a lot of buzz: Was it a blimp? Was it a UFO?

Jaimie, I asked them to take Martin Overton away.

Oh, wicked, bad, naughty Zoot! She has been setting alight to our beacon, which, I just remembered, is UFO shaped. .

I have called in reinforcements, Dexter, and I've learned this is a Monty Python reference - aren't you proud of me?

Hello everyone, I am the Director of a Connecticut-based organization called the Smoking Gun Research Agency (www.sgra.org) as well as a former blogger on unexplained topics for the Bethwood Patch (http://bethwood.patch.com/users/jon-nowinski/blog_posts). Our group is always interested in talking with people who have seen something unexplained in the sky, and can use numerous resources to help determine if there is an explanation for what was seen. We work throughout Connecticut, and were recently involved with helping to explain an incident which took place near Bantam Lake in Litchfield County back in April. The important thing to remember about a group like ours determining something is a "UFO" is that "UFO" does not mean "Alien Craft." We simple deem something as unexplained if we can check all resources and nothing seems to provide an exact reason for what was seen. We can be contacted at sgra@sgra.org or (203) 987 - SGRA, and you do not need to include your name. - Jon Nowinski

Dear Author, My sister, father, and I driving through CT on Upper Grassy Hill, looking east toward the vicinity of 5 Old Grassy Hill Rd. and 60 Transylvania Rd and saw the exact same thing reportedly seen on July 29, 2012. The only difference was it happened for us over a much narrower time frame (3- 5 minutes) as we slowed to a stop in the car to watch. We watched as the orb turned from red to white in its final seconds before vanishing into the horizon! Thought you should know!

Thank you for adding your comments, we at SGRA are always welcoming of reports whether new or old. The particular sightings in July were part of what seemed to be a nearly 4-month "wave" of similar reports that came in between late June and early September, but reports like these have been filed from across Connecticut. Frequently objects seen like these are dismissed as paper lanterns, as they can look very similar to the sighting reports, however in most of these incidents that has been reasonably ruled out. We always keep reports, whether detailed or not, in our file so thank you.

Erin, thanks for sharing your experience and Jon, thanks for responding to it! Jon, do you hear about waves like this often?

I saw the same red object on Thursday December 14 @ 9:20 am in Waterbury,CT me and my wife wittinessed it. But minutes after it flew passed we saw military helicopters looking for it this was the real deal I remember the seeing the same objects as a kid with me father where driving one night with my brother and we seen it up close it hovered right over car we were at seaside park in Bridgeport,CT it seem to be a hovering fortress I never knew what it was I was kid i remember that my dad was amazed and my brother was scared. my dad has passed last year and I lost my brother in 2002. Its weird to see the same thing at the age of 33.It makes me think whats going on that we all don't know about. This was not no damn paper lantern or a rocket .this was something not of this world. I don't do drugs nor I'm crazy. This thing was fast enough to be undetected. It look like a red glow shape like a triangle it move so fast nothing we have on the planet can catch this thing. this is no smoking gun we need the truth!!
