Patch How-To: Posting Comments

One of the most engaging features on Patch is the ability to read and respond to comments from the people you live, work and socialize with everyday. We love to see Patch users support and congratulate each other, challenges each others views and provide additional details on the day's most important topics.

Patch's success relies on the participation of its readers, so we encourage you to post comments as often as you can.

Need some instructions? Here's how you can start posting comments today:

1. (If you already have a Patch account, skip to step #2). Sign up for a Patch account by clicking on the "Sign Up" button at the top of the homepage and following the instructions. Once your account is confirmed, log in.

2. Click on the story that you'd like to comment on, scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the form in the blue box under "Leave a Comment." If you'd like to keep track of all of the comments that are posted on this story via email, click on the "Send me email updates for this article" button. If you'd like to follow the story's comments without making a comment of your own, click on the "Follow Comments" button at the top of the Comments section.

3. Before you click on "Submit" button to post your comment, be sure the comment follows our "Terms of Use." Please note that comments should not contain offensive, derogatory or defamatory language. To delete a comment that you have submitted, hit the "Delete" button. To flag another reader's comment as inappropriate, click on the "Flag as Inappropriate" button near the comment. Once the comment is flagged three times, it will be automatically deleted.

4. To reply to another reader's comment, click on the "Reply" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the box containing the comment, fill out the form and click the "Submit" button.

You comments will not only appear on the story you've chosen, but it will also appear on the homepage in our "What People Are Saying" section. You can also use this area to post short comments or messages that may not necessarily have to do with an article that is currently posted on the site.

If you'd like to let other readers know about a child's accomplishment, an accident or road closure that you just witnessed or an event taking place, add an announcement to Woodbury-Middlebury Patch.

And everyday, Patch sites in our region post a feature called "You Said It," which features the most interesting comments of the day from you, our readers. Be sure to check if your comment made the list!
