Name That Bird

What kind of bird is that? A chance encounter with an avian wonder left this Patch editor asking that very question.

I've seen this bird before, swooping from tree branch to tree branch. Once, it came perilously close to my windshield as I was driving in Woodbury.

Yesterday, I was fortunate to see the winged wonder from a distance and also fortunate to have a decent zoom function on my camera.

So, dear readers - do you know what kind of bird this is? If you do, please share in the comments section.

Looks like a red-tailed hawk to me.

I agree. Definitely a red-tailed hawk.

I agree as well - with the other replies - red-tailed hawk

Thanks all - I heard tell that it was good luck to see this feathered friend! (As long as the hawk doesn't fly too close to the windshield again!)

Good luck??? The rabbits in my yard beg to differ.

And the chipmunks and the mice too. I've also seen a ton of flying squirrels around lately that probably agree with the rabbits!

I do have a photo - albeit a blurry one! I have quite the number of adventures with flying squirrels and I'm very adept at the catch-and-release!
