Telemarketer Reportedly Threatens CT Resident

A Monroe man told police that a telemarketer threatened him and his family on Tuesday evening, July 24. On Wednesday, July 25, he shared his story with Monroe Patch under the condition of anonymity.

Over the course of several months it was the same story. The phone would ring, each time with a different company name and number on the caller I.D., and the same recording would play, "This is your last call to lower your credit card debt." Instructions to press 1 to speak to a customer representative and 3 to be placed on the Do Not Call List were then given, according to police.

"I don't have any credit card debt, so why are you calling me?" the homeowner said of his experience. "They would call and hang up on my wife."

On Tuesday, the first call came at 5:19 p.m. "Lower Interest" and the number 253-382-9900 — a Washington area code — was on the caller I.D.

The husband answered.

"I said, 'Stop calling. Take me off your list,'" he recalled. "The woman started cursing at me, so I hung up."

Then the phone rang two minutes later, with D&C Solutions, 407-434-7130 (a Florida area code) on the caller I.D., he said, adding the same woman was on the other end of the line.

"Are you looking out the window?" she reportedly asked him. "We're coming for you. We're going to kill you. We're gonna burn your house down."

According to the homeowner, the telemarketer asked him if he had any children and when he said, "You should know. You called me," he said she made lewd comments about things they would do to them.

He said the telemarketer also told him, "Are you taping this call? You'll never find us."

"I was just listening," he said. "I was trying to get my iPhone to tape it. I just said, 'Yep. Yep.' Finally she said, 'You're wasting my time.' So I said, 'Then hang up.'"

Police said they found a listing for a company called D&C in Altamonte Springs, Fla., but nothing for a company called Lower Interest.

In reflecting on his experience, the homeowner said, "All for a credit card I don't even have."
