UPDATE: Grassy Hill Road Still Unsafe for Travel; Fixing Bridge A Priority

Grassy Hill Road remains closed due to a Wednesday, August 15, bridge washout and damage. Read on for an alternative route to take.

 

4:51 p.m. Update:

Grassy Hill Road is closed due to a washout of the footing of the cross culvert pipe. The washout compromised the road surface, making it unsafe for travel, according to First Selectman Gerald D. Stomski.

He said engineers have been to the site and are developing the bridge replacement specifications.

"This is a priority to repair this culvert and to get the road back open," he said. "The town may use a temporary bridge to lay over the compromised surface to allow temporary access across the bridge."

Stomski thanked Governor Dannel P. Malloy's Office and the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation for their assistance.

Grassy Hill Road is closed at the intersection of Grassy Hill Road and Route 317, First Selectman Gerald Stomski said via e-mail.

The road closure is due to a bridge washout over Good Hill Brook. Alternative routes are over Transylvania Road to Grassy Hill Road or up Route 317 to Upper Grassy Hill Road.
