Correspondence from the 1800s with a Middlebury and Woodbury tie is up for sale on eBay.

From New York to Woodbury

In 1838, Harriet Benedict of 838 New York, N.Y., wrote a four page letter to a friend with the last name of "Walker," who resided in Woodbury, Conn. The first name looks to be either "Darcy" or "Nancy."

In 1843, J. Atwater wrote a letter of recommendation for one Mr. Charles S. Weller on March 9, 1843. The recommendation is also signed by L.A. Thompson.

The seller, jimmtn, is uncertain if the "Middlebury" noted in the letter is indeed "Middlebury, CT."

According to the eBay listing, the letter reads: "After an acquaintance of some year's standing with Mr. Charles S. Weller, I feel prepared to say, that he is a young gentleman of approved character & habits, prospering, in my belief, abilities & acquirements which qualify him as an Instructor in our primary schools. I would therefore hereby recommend him to those who may wish to Employ his services in that relation. (signed) J. Atwater, Middlebury 9th March 1843. I concur in the above, (also signed by) L.A. Thompson. "
