Suggestion: Memorial Day is coming and if you were thinking of bringing a camera to the parade – then you should consider the next step – submitting that video to share with the community on CTV21. Whether you are shooting some or all of the parade, or even just the memorial service itself, there are community members that would love to see it.
Teaching community members to produce programming is one of the most satisfying aspects of our work here at CTV21. When someone decides to create or even explore the idea of creating video we know there is some trepidation involved. Learning a new skill seems challenging, but when you see the facilities and meet the staff you can begin to relax. “This won’t be as hard as I thought.” You will say to yourself. The staff of CTV21 is interested and enthusiastic and will guide you through the steps to creating something viewers will enjoy watching. To make it even easier to use CTV-21 take a look at just 3 of the opportunities we offer to get involved.
- Bring in a finished program – maybe you saw a program on another local channel, or produced something in the past. Part of the benefit of CTV21 is that it is a channel airing shows that have been supplied by members of the local community. Anyone can drop off a finished show and submit it to be aired.
- Create your own show! – deciding to produce a show doesn’t require all your free time. CTV21 is open at convenient hours in the evening and on Saturdays. You can create something using your own camera, or step up to one of our loaner cameras. If editing is needed, we can train you how to quickly add credits to that parade, presentation, or concert in the park. Simple. If you want to create a multi-part series, you can do that too. The first step is to talk with us, and we’ll tell you what the next step is.
- Learn the basics first – shoot later! – CTV21 has a comprehensive training workshop that will take you from the basics all the way to seasoned producer. In an 18-week series of classes and coaching sessions you will be able to learn-by-doing in a group environment. Similar to an internship, participants only need the desire to learn and a few hours each week in exchange for an opportunity to gain real confidence behind a camera or holding a microphone. We offer this training course 3-times a year to a limited number of participants. Check with the department to see when the next one is coming up.
The staff of CTV-21 is waiting for your call (203) 304-4050. Our aim is to encourage anyone who is interested in producing a program for CTV-21. We have boasted in the past, and continue the throw down the gauntlet of challenge that we can train anyone.
CTV-21 is the community access channel for residents of the Charter service area. Anyone who lives within Charter’s 14-town coverage area may produce or provide a program to CTV-21. We provide a range of opportunities for anyone who wants to produce from quick and simple custom training to a comprehensive production workshop. All these services are provided free, but there are some restrictions. Please call the department (203) 304-4050, visit us online – either facebook/CTV21, or at www.communityvision21.com – for more information.
