When the company made the announcement on Facebook last month, 61 people "liked" it and many have said they simply cannot wait any longer. Someone posted the night before opening day and said she could not even wait 18 more hours for the shop to open.

The business opened on July 3, 1994, by Dave and Dawn Rich, on what is known as Ajello's Farm, according to the company's website. The couple, along with their children, opened the business to enhance their already existing dairy farm, which has been in the family for five generations.

The website noted that "all of the ice cream is made daily on the farm, using only the highest quality ingredients."

In 2010, Connecticut Magazine readers voted Rich Farm the best ice cream parlor in Connecticut, and the shop has received several more accolades over the years.
