What's Open in Middlebury & Woodbury Post-Hurricane Sandy

With many local businesses still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, Patch is compiling a list of businesses that are open and serving the community.

Are you open for business? Let us know in the comments and include the name and address of your business, plus the hours you’re open.

Please include any special services, products or other information that might be useful to the community.

For example, do you have WiFi, fresh water or charging stations? Let us know and we’ll publish it on Patch, in our e-mail newsletter, and on our Facebook page.

The following businesses or community resource centers reached out to Patch in the days after Hurricane Sandy and confirmed they are open.

  • New Morning Market is open at 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. There us free Wifi in the cafe and charging stations.
  • The Woodbury Senior Center resumed normal operations on Friday, Nov. 2.
  • The Middlebury Public Library opened its doors again on October 31.
  • Geppetto's Toys posted on its Facebook page and said it was open and had power on October 30.

Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
