LaBonne's Receives Support to Move, Reopen in Different Woodbury Location

The reopening is anticipated to take place on June 1.

 

Bob LaBonne Jr. received Zoning Commission support at its Tuesday, March 14, meeting at the , to move LaBonne's Market from its present location at 238 Main St. South to the soon-to-be former location of , 738 Main St. South.

New Morning Market's new building is under construction at 129 Main St. North.

The commissioners supported asking the zoning enforcement officer to issue a permit for a new tenant.

LaBonne said the move is temporary and estimated he will stay at the location for approximately one year. He said his goal is to construct a new building but told Patch it was too soon to provide additional information on that matter.

The present building is 11,000-square feet. New Morning Market is 10,000-square feet.

"It's going to be a challenge for us, but hopefully it's temporary," he said.

Simply ridiculous. LaBonne's is going to move an entire grocery store business for a year? There's something else going on here. Nobody can be so stupid as to incur that kind of expense and disruption of business for a year. Sounds like small town politics and back-room dealing to me. LaBonne's is looking for something and they're not being up-front about it. And our zoning commission is either too stupid, or too deeply involved to make a rational decision.

Actually, the zoning commission never voted. Given that the property was already zoned as a grocery store for New Morning, there was no need for zoning to take action. The minutes will be up on the Woodbury website within a few days and you can see what actually happened. By the way Monty, any idea who owns the building that LaBonne's currently resides in? Go research that before you throw unfounded and irresponsible accusations and insults at the zoning commission. We give 2-3 hours of our life one night a month with no compensation. We deserve to be treated with more respect. What is your evidence that there was some backroom deal? Any meeting with zoning officials discussing this would be illegal and subject to Freedom of Information. Also, this matter was not on the original agenda and added during the meeting. The next meeting is Tuesday April 10th at 7:30pm. Feel free to learn what we do first hand. These are my personal opinions, and not of the zoning commission.
