11 Woodbury Businesses Charged With Selling Alcohol to Minors

The four businesses that passed are Labonne's Market, Nutmeg Wine and Spirit Shoppe, Carmen Anthony Fishhouse and Dottie’s Diner, according to Claudette Carveth of the Department of Consumer Protection.

Seventy-three percent of Woodbury businesses that were the target of a routine alcohol compliance check this weekend allegedly sold to minors.

In announcing the results of the check, which were conducted on Saturday, state Department Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said, “We were disappointed to find that 11 of the 15 stores tested in Woodbury failed our routine compliance check this weekend."

"This is a higher-than-average level of non-compliance, and one that we expect the permittees to address,” Rubenstein added.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, agents from the Department’s Liquor Control Division and the Resident Trooper’s Office for the town of Woodbury conducted compliance checks at businesses in town. Fifteen (15) establishments were tested for compliance with minors trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, and of these, it is alleged that 11 failed. The stores which allegedly sold alcoholic liquor to minors were:

• Daly Express Mart, 167 Main St. South
• Discount Liquors, 73 Main St. South
• Country Spirit Shop, 95 Main St. South
• Charcoal Chef Restaurant, 670 Main St. North
• Old Tollgate Inn, 369 Washington Road
• Good News Restaurant and Cafe, 694 Main St. South
• Carlito’s of Woodbury, 20 Sherman Hill Road
• Curtis House, 506 Main St. South
• San Remo Restaurant and Pizzeria, 135 Main St. North
• Constantine’s, 1143 Main St. South
• Elenni’s Woodbury Pizza Castle, 40 Sherman Hill Road

The establishments are charged with selling liquor to a minor and will be scheduled for an administrative hearing before the Liquor Control Commission, at which time each will have the opportunity to address the charges.
