Bikes, Beer and Cheese, Oh My!

Four small businesses are coming together this Sunday, May 20, for a special event along Hartford’s Riverfront Recapture area to celebrate a unique marriage of bikes, beer and cheese.

The CT Beer Trail has teamed up with cycling experts from the Pedal Power bicycle shops to host their first Bikes & Beers event of the season along the city’s riverfront bike friendly trails.

The family friendly casual ride will lead cyclists of all experience levels on a six mile loop. More experienced riders will have an opportunity to repeat the loop or ride along some of the wooded trails further north of Riverside Park to extend their ride.

Once the ride is finished, participants will be invited to make a short drive to the Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. in Bloomfield, where they will be offered brewery tours and the chance to sample handcrafted beer made locally at the facility.

The Whey Station, a mobile food truck owned and operated by a local husband and wife team, will be on hand serving gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and “truck made” soups.

This Sunday also marks the beginning of legal  throughout the state.  Thanks to new legislation this month those participating in this event will be able to buy craft beer from the brewery and take it home in containers called growlers.

This event will mark the end of American Craft Beer Week and comes just after National Ride Your Bike to Work Week.  With beautiful weather in the forecast, participants should be in for a great time.  More information is available at the CT Beer Trail website.

Today's drug prohibition is getting violent criminals off the street - how many are in prison rightRead More now? Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
