Comic Conversations With Adventure Time and Saga!

How do you feel about a great comic for kids (Adventure Time!) and one you absolutely shouldn't give to a kid (Saga)?

Adventure Time #5

Written by Ryan North

Art by Mike Holmes

"Emit Etutnevda" by Paul Pope

"Ice Kingdumb" written by Georgia & Chris Roberson, illustrated by Lucy Knisley

Oh my glob you guys, this comic is full of amazing things by creators I love. Ryan North kicks it off with BMO, Finn and Jake's amazingly adorable computer friend, wearing a chef hat and an apron labeled "i hope i'm GOOD AT THIS" and declaring "I made BAKING" while holding aloft a pink cupcake.

This kicks off an incredible competition between Finn and Jake over who gets to eat it. Of course the best part of Finn and Jake competing against each other is that they also don't stop talking about how they're the closest bros in the whole world and this competition doesn't change any of that.

Then they meet Adventure Tim who is a crazy mash-up of Finn and Jake. They team up with Adventure Tim to fight the Mice King. Then they finally go home and share the cupcake.

I absolutely love this comic. Each issue just gets better and funnier and they keep getting some really fantastic talent for the back ups. And really, I am looking forward to next month's in a big way because Anthony Clark of Nedroid is doing a story called "Level 99."

Saga Chapter Four by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Unlike Adventure Time this is a comic you shouldn't give a kid. I reviewed the first issue of this a few months ago instead of waiting for the trades like I had originally planned on doing.

Alana and Marko are still stuck on the same planet with their newborn daughter and her babysitter who is a ghost. Meanwhile, a bounty hunter called The Will is visiting Sextillion which is an entire planet that is also a brothel. Then The Will kills the pimp there upon discovering an underage sex slave. Meanwhile, happy parents Alana and Marko are about to be attacked one of the factions after them.

I don't know at what point these two stories are going to converge but I'll keep reading until they do.
