Health & Fitness

Spring has sprung and optimum health is yours for the picking!

Here I discuss what optimum health is, why people are so sick today, "dandy lions" and an exciting healthy spring event!

I am back, as promised! I have been very busy since my last posting, with garden musings and visions of lush greens filing my plate, my blender and my belly!

In the meanwhile, my cells are getting happy with the abunDANCE of wild foods that are provided this time of year. The dandelions are prolific, not a weed to be eradicted, but one to be made use of, to cleanse the winter cobwebs.

So I am here, on the tail of my last post where I asked: What do you think optimum health is? Why are so many people sick? How can you prevent catching "what is going around?"

Optimum health, as explained in the Preamble to the Constitution of the The World Health Organization, health is defined as a "state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Optimum health is not just  about "eating proper food, getting proper exercise and having enough sleep." Many people have seen this advice, yet what its the gap between what we know and what we currently have?

Optimum health is, as stated above, a combination of many factors. It is looking at every single area of your life and making changes to bring about balance.

As a health coach, I work with individuals and support them in looking at joy, happiness, relationships, spirituality, home cooking, home environment, exercise, self confidence, and the whole picture of who you are as a person.

This is a way to acheive the health you desire.

Many are sick today as many live in a sickness mentality for the most part. Someone sneezes and when they do, you might say "Oh, I guess I have what is "going around." The mind tells the body how to feel and so it feels that way.

So, off to the doc you go, getting a diagnosis to back up what you were thinking, and the meds follow. This may lead to more meds, and on it goes. The body can heal itself by itself, when given the chance.

Instead, pulling towards wellness, in every area of our life is key. We are what we eat, we are what we think, we are what we drink, we are what we say and we are what we do. You are going to make it up so be sure to make it great! What is the story of your life going to look like?

Another big reason people are sick is because we have gotten too far from the soil, yes I mean the dirt! Next post, I will discuss that nitty gritty goodness, complete with earthworms. Stay tuned.

                                        Recipe of the week:

Dandy-Lion Juice

a handful fresh, young dandelion leaves (get them quick)

three celery stalks

four kale leaves

one piece ginger root(to suit your taste)

2 large apples

Juice all together. If you have no juicer, blend well and squeeze thru a mesh bag.

Drink up! (Compliments of JuiceIT HD app on itunes)

Note: The body loves bitter to counteract conditions such as candida (which many people are laden with today). This, combined with the fact that dandelions are low moisture and liquid sunshine, warms the body and counteracts the damp constitution, making it a super pick for spring consumption.

On May 13th, I will be hosting a "SPRING HAS SPRUNG" cleanse and you are invited. Yes, it includes yummy spring foods! Here is the information about it:
