The brick façades of industrial buildings on Freight Street have become the backdrop for a series of Handmade Markets featuring colorful, handmade wares and lively local musicians. Freight Street Gallery produces the pop-up markets as a way to showcase the talent of local artisans and musicians, with an emphasison creating opportunities that are accessible to smaller companies and new designers. What results are recurring events that are by the community, for the community. Hundreds of attendees visited these Handmade Markets over the Summer and discovered local crafters and their functional sculptures, funky hand-designed jewelry, knitting, children’s apparel, accessories, hand-bound books, and unique housewares. With the goal of displaying an eclectic mix of mediums, each event is juried and hosts different vendors from one market to the next.
Freight Street Gallery is now hosting their final market before Black Friday on Sunday, October 21 from 11am–4pm..In a city with its sights set on revitalization, the Handmade Markets provide a chance for friends, families, and neighbors to enjoy an urban outing together and experience a new side of The Brass City. Shopping local to support small businesses and independent designers strengthens the connections we have to one another and the products we create as a community.
Art will be displayed in the open gallery and Nolan Brother's Music will set the stage for live musical performances throughout the market days. Local food vendors will serve delicious refreshments and art activities are planned for families with children.
So come on out and spend an hour—or the whole day—with us as great artists, great food, great music, and great people come together to foster community among artists and non-artists.
Freight Street Gallery is volunteer-run organization that is committed to ensuring artists and musicians have opportunities to fine tune their craft and showcase their talent. We bring together talented individuals from around the block and across the country and create a space for them to collaborate.
