Workshop For Nonnewaug Students Offers Healing Through Art

To present and former Nonnewaug High School students who were friends with Nicholas Aleia and David Metcalf, art therapist and grief counselor Karen Anderson is offering a free healing workshop to help the students deal with the recent loss of their friends.

The workshop, titled "Healing Grief and Pain Through Art," will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in the Community Room at New Morning Market in Woodbury.

Students are encouraged to bring photos to share.

A memorial made for both David and Nicholas will be created, Anderson said.

Friends can write messages, attach a collage or other art piece. All art supplies will be provided.

The open art workshop is free to all NHS students and recent graduates to express emotions concerning the recent loss of Aleia and Metcalf.

The following description of the workshop is from a press release provided by Anderson.

Participants can work with collages, beginning with imagery provided by magazines and then use different artistic tools, such as paints and pastels, to enhance the meaning of the work.

Those interested are asked to register at keaactualize@gmail.com and may also contact Anderson via e-mail with any questions.
