Woodbury Skate Park Kids: 'We Just Want You to Hear Our Story'

Six Woodbury skateboarders have a message for Rob Zombie:

"We hope Mr. Zombie and his fans can can help keep our skate park open and maybe a little more quiet by going to woodburyskatepark.com and making a donation," says Liam, one of the skateboarders in the video.

"We know Mr. Zombie supports kids," another says. "We just want to keep our skate park open so we can have fun."

The kids’ message was broadcast on YouTube. And as of Monday afternoon, their video had 114 views.

The video is but the latest in what has become a string of reactions and responses to the issue of noise coming from the Woodbury skate park.

Last week, Zombie and the skate park became a topic of discussion around town and on the Internet as parents began to question why the hours had been trimmed back at the park. It turns out the new hours were a direct response to noise complaints from residents, according to First Selectman Gerald Stomski.

While he would not confirm nor deny one of those residents was Sheri Moon Zombie, wife of Rob Zombie, she did air her concerns about noise at the skate park during a public meeting in June.

The Zombies’ property on Sycamore Road abuts the town-owned park where the skateboard ramps are. When the changes to park hours and the issue of noise came to a head, some people lashed out at Zombie and his wife — in comments and blogs.

In response, Rob Zombie took to social media, and shared this message via Facebook and Twitter:

"There is a simple matter going on in which we are trying to find a solution that will make EVERYBODY happy," he writes in a Facebook status. "Unfortunately someone decided to turn it into a whole ugly event. What a bummer."

‘We Know You Don’t Hate Kids or Skaters’

In a letter posted on the Woodbury Skate Park Supporters’ website, Tristan sends a message directly to Zombie. He writes:

“A lot of mean things have been said but I want you to know that was not done by the kids of the park.  We know you don’t hate kids or skaters and that you just want some peace and quiet when you aren’t on the road or making movies.”  

“We will work hard again to raise more money and set a good example with our skate park.  Hey, maybe you would want to help or maybe if a few of the millions of Zombie fans each sent a dollar we could make a really rad park and give you the quiet you are looking for.”

“Anyway, thanks for listening and hope you will come and skate with us one day.  It’s not a big park but it’s all we have and it's close to all of our houses.”
