What Are Weevils Doing in Woodbury?

Can you guess?

What’s a weevil? What are they doing in Woodbury? Good Question!

The University of Connecticut and CT Agricultural Experiment Station released the beneficial insect known as the weevil for biological control of the invasive “mile-a-minute vine” in Woodbury Thursday afternoon.

The beneficial weevils have been introduced into 12 Connecticut towns since 2009.  Mile-a-minute vine, Persicaria perfoliata, is a highly invasive, non-native annual vine that is one of 97 plants on the official Connecticut invasive plant list, according to the experiment station.
