Report: The Rich in Connecticut Like to Cheat

Some of the state's biggest cheaters live in our wealthiest towns.

That's what a website devoted to helping couples have affairs has determined anyway. The rest of the state apparently is living up to Connecticut's reputation as a bastion of Puritan ideals.

The website Ashleymadison.com, which provides an online portal for married couples and others in committed relationships to seek out affairs, recently listed the top 10 towns in Connecticut where users have signed up for the service. All are located in southwestern and western Connecticut and are among the richest towns in the state, according to a report on NBC Connecticut.

The site says the top 10 cheating towns are:

1. Westport, 5.9 percent
2. Stamford, 4.6 percent
3. Ridgefield, 4.2 percent
4. Danbury, 4 percent
5. Trumbull, 3.6 percent
6. Darien, 3.6 percent
7. Fairfield, 3.5 percent
8. New Canaan, 3.5 percent
9. Norwalk, 3.4 percent
10. Wilton, 3.3 percent

Ashleymadison.com CEO and founder Noel Biderman told NBC that wealth and infidelity are closely linked.

"The proclivity to cheat often goes hand in hand with opportunity. Those with discretionary income and freedom to travel are often the most likely to stray," he said.
