Timberdoodling-Woodcock Walk This Friday at Audubon Center at Bent of the River

A Timberdoodling – Woodcock Walk will be held Friday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the visitor parking lot of the Audubon Center at Bent of the River, 185 East Flat Hill Road in the South Britain hamlet of Southbury, off Route 172.

Come observe one of North America’s most intriguing mating displays as the male American Woodcock struts, makes “peents” mating sounds, flies, and whistles his way into the female’s favor. Previous walks have provided impressive displays.

Participants are likely to also see courtship flights of Mourning Doves, and hear the classic “who cooks for you, who cooks for you all” call from the Center’s resident Barred Owls, all with a background symphony of spring peepers.
