Children's Activities Planned for Woodbury Earth Day 2014

The Children's Activity tent will be buzzing with excitement at this year's Woodbury Earth Day on April 26 at the Woodbury Middle School grounds, thanks to sponsors Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition, CAST Preschool and Childcare Center, and Ion Bank.  The following FREE activities are planned and are appropriate for all ages and abilities, as there will be lots of volunteers to help everyone.

 

Fish Prints -

Find out what's happening in Woodbury-Middleburywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Create note cards and artistic prints using rubber fish and paint.  Also learn about fish that live in the nearby Pomperaug River.

River Bug Art -

Make your own insect using recycled egg cartons, pipe cleaners, googlie eyes, popsicle sticks, etc.  Be sure to check out the tray of the baby insects from the Pomperaug River for inspiration!

 

Seed Planting -

Plant your own sunflowers and peas (I think that's what we are planting...) in a recycled egg carton seed tray.  Soil and seeds provided by Plant Country of Woodbury

 

Beads, Beads, Beads -

String your own Earth Bead bracelet on natural fiber.  Create your own recycled paper beads!

 

Nature Stamps -

Use stamps and leaves to create your own nature scene.

 

Bird Feeders -

Make your own backyard bird feeder using a recycled toilet paper tube, Sun Butter, and bird seed. Bird seed donated by Ace Hardware of Woodbury.

 

In addition we will also have the following vendors close by hosting more fun for all ages.

 

Macaroni Kids -

FREE Make your own macaroni necklace

 

Farm on Wheels -

Petting zoo, a donation is requested per person

 

Put on a Happy Face -

Face painting, a nominal fee will be charged

 

Woodbury Library / Ann Bumsted -

FREE for all ages - Children's stories every half hour

 

Audubon Sharon -

Birds of Prey at 3 PM in the Peace Garden

FREE thanks to the generous sponsorship of Brown Tufts Montessori Preschool

 

Bring in the Hoopla -

Designer hoola hoops for everyone to enjoy!
