This Sunday, November 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Pet Aesthetics at 134 Main Street South in Southbury will host a Pet Groom-A-Thon and owner Susan Begasse-Marucci will donate all proceeds from their standard pet grooming services to the Luck2Tuck charitable fund. Additionally, in celebration of Pet Aesthetics 13th anniversary of business success in Southbury, Begasse-Marucci will offer 10% of services during the entire month of November to be donated to the Luck2Tuck fundraising campaign.
“This is our way of giving back to a community that has been so supportive of our business,” stated Begasse-Marucci. “Tucker Gowen was only 18 when he died on October 9th from Acute Myeloid (AML) Leukemia, and the entire community is rallying to help raise funds to fight the disease through the Luck2Tuck charitable fund established at Webster Bank in Southbury. So many people want to help, so if they are not able to bring their pet in for the
November 11th Pet Groom-A-Thon, they will know that 10% of the services we provide to their pets during November will be donated directly to the Luck2Tuck fund.”
Pet Aesthetics, a pet grooming salon and a gift and natural foods supplies boutique, is located two doors down from the Hen of the Woods café and restaurant in the Bennett Square Plaza. “We offer a very caring, holistic approach to grooming and the health of the animals that are brought into our pet-centered environment and grooming salon,” explained Begasse-Marucci. “In our retail boutique, customers will find all-natural organic food selections, plus treats and toys for their pets. For this winter, we carry reversible pet scarves by Jamba Dog, and we’ll be bringing back our very popular holiday-themed bakery items.”
An active participant in the Southbury area community since 1999, Pet Aesthetics has helped raise more than $3,000 for the Northwest regional chapter of Special Olympics of Connecticut in 2011 and 2012 through the Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest held at Leo’s Restaurant in Southbury. “This is a very caring community,” expressed Begasse-Marucci, “and we have known the Gowen family for many years. We did not personally know Tucker, or his siblings, but we have certainly had the joy of working with the family’s pets Kimba, Kenzi, Churchill, Scudder, Sophie and Rugby through the years.”
Truxtun “Tucker” Hare Jr. passed away October 9, 2012 after his long and courageous fight battling AML Leukemia. Tucker is the son of Truxtun Hare Gowen Sr. of Radnor, Penn. and Jennifer Beecher Gowen of Southbury, and brother to Tristan, Lochlan, Finnian and Aisling Gowen all of Southbury. Tucker was a senior at Pomperaug High and a member of the Symphonic Band and the Boys Varsity Swim Team. He tackled life and his Leukemia diagnosis with determination, a positive attitude and great sense of humor. One of his missions during his 6 month hospital stay was to provide hope and encouragement to the other children on 6 North at Children’s Hospital Boston. He will be deeply missed by so very many people.”
