Four Region 15 students were selected to receive the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Scholar-Leader Award for their academic excellence and school leadership. Memorial Middle School has named Kim A. and Walter M. to receive the Scholar-Leader Award, and Michael W. and Kayla K. were named the Scholar Leaders at Rochambeau Middle School.
This Scholar-Leader program, established in 1985, is designed to give recognition to one boy and one girl from each middle level school in Connecticut who has distinguished himself or herself in scholarship and leadership in school and community.
The academic standard established by CAS is based on a cumulative middle school average of at least 85% or "B”.
For leadership, the students were selected based upon their active participation in school and community organizations, citizenship and positive influence on school climate, dependability, responsibility, character, and integrity.
The four eighth-grade students, their parents, and school officials are invited to attend the 28th Annual Connecticut Middle Level Scholar-Leader Banquet on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Each Scholar-Leader receives an award signifying the honor, as well as an individual photograph commemorating the event. The Commissioner of Education and other dignitaries are included in the evening's program.
