Nine year old Joey Okesson of Woodbury is already making a big impact in the national scene as a snowboarder.
From November-April Joey trains each weekend as part of the Okemo Snowboarding Team in Vermont. Joey has only been snowboarding for 2 years and this winter took 1st place in the Southern Vermont Series in 3 disciplines-Giant Slalom, Slalom and Bordercross.
He came in 2nd in the series in Halfpipe, and 3rd place in Slopestyle. He finished the season ranked 7th in the country overall.
In April, Joey travelled with his coach to Copper Mountain in Colorado and competed against 1,700 from across the country at the USASA Snowboarding Nationals. In the highly competitive Halfpipe division, Okesson came in 6th in the Grommet Boys 8-9 year old field.
Joey is in 4th grade and attends Rumsey Hall School. When he's not on the snow, he can be found skateboarding all over Connecticut and Rhode Island in different skateboard competitions.
