Do you know a serviceman or woman that would like to receive a care package?
Since 2009, Charter has supported areal organizations in their efforts to raise morale among U.S. troops by collecting and distributing DVDs to troops overseas.
“The time soldiers spend waiting to be deployed or resting from a deployment can be lonely and stressful,” said Greg Garabedian, Vice President and General Manager for Charter in New England. “By sending care packages of recorded media, the troops are simultaneously entertained and reminded that their countrymen back home care enough to send a symbol of what all Americans appreciate, freedom to enjoy a little distraction from our own daily struggles.”
With the campaign now in its fourth year, Charter is seeking community members who have a family member, or know someone serving overseas who would like to receive a care package of music and movies. “We have an annual DVD collection that is now well-established and continues to grow,” said Greg Van Antwerp, supervisor at Charter’s CTV-21 and coordinator of the DVD’s for Troops campaign. “We want to make sure we are including all local families with relatives serving their country.”
Residents in the community can contact the offices of CTV-21 at (203) 304-4050 with information about who and how many troops may benefit from these care packages. Charter employees, customers, and the community at-large are being asked to help make this year’s campaign a rousing success.
Charter will also be collecting new and used CD’s in addition to DVD’s. The campaign, which is scheduled to conclude February 15, 2013, has already seen an out-pouring of generosity. The current item tally is 932, and Charter feels confident that more donations o this worthy cause will raise that number.
Contributions to the campaign may be dropped off at Charter’s store, located at 9 Commerce Rd, or next door at the offices of CTV-21, located at 11 Commerce Rd, Newtown. Donors may also get in touch with the CTV-21 staff by calling (203) 304-4050 to arrange a drop-off /pick-up or receive more information.
