Western, CT - As residents throughout New England brace for a probable bout with Hurricane Sandy, Charter is putting safeguards in place to stabilize its workforce and network in preparation for the storm’s impact.
"We are hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst," said Gregory A. Garabedian, Charter's Vice President and General Manager for New England. "We are tracking the storm’s path, and taking necessary precautions to ensure that our employees are prepared, in order to limit service interruptions for customers."
Charter’s storm preparation plan includes an internal employee alert system, checking all Charter facilities in the path of the storm to ensure each is properly stocked with equipment and resources readied at staging areas in safe locations. Suppliers of fiber and cable also are notified to be on stand-by alert.
Special service attention is focused on hospitals, government and community facilities that depend on uninterrupted Charter services. "Our community relies on Charter services to stay connected to critical information, as well as to loved ones," said Garabedian. "We take that responsibility very seriously and will do everything within our power to make sure our services remain online throughout the duration of the storm."
Garabedian said that the Charter team is bringing in additional stand-by generators, cable and other materials to Charter’s staging area in Worcester, MA. “We have additional crews on alert and ready to mobilize if any network damage occurs,” Garabedian stated. Charter also maintains a close working relationship with local power companies, in order to safely expedite any repairs and restore service if any network damage were to occur. “As soon as our crews are given the go-ahead by local power companies to safely enter an area, we will do so,” Garabedian stated.
