Charter Provides Entertainment to Military with 4th Annual "DVDs for Troops" Campaign

Consider donating new or used DVDs and CDs for troop entertainment

Since 2009, Charter has joined with employees, customers and local organizations to aid in the mission of maintaining high morale among our troops with its popular campaign of collecting and distributing DVDs to troops overseas. With more than 6,000 disks distributed in past years, Charter enters the 4th year of the “DVDs for Troops” campaign, with the goal to reach an even wider audience of troops serving in the military. In addition to DVDs, Charter will also be collecting new and used CDs.

“The time soldiers spend waiting to be deployed or resting from a deployment can be a lonely and stressful time,” said Greg Garabedian, Vice President and General Manager for Charter in New England. “By supplying our troops with DVDs, our soldiers are not only entertained, but reminded that the folks back home appreciate their dedication and commitment serving overseas, keeping us free and protecting us from harm’s way.”

All Western, CT residents may contribute to the campaign by collecting DVDs of any kind, with a case or without, new or used, and drop them off at Charter’s Customer Service Center at 9 Commerce Rd, Newtown, CT. Donors may also get in touch with the staff at CTV-21 (203) 304-4050, to arrange a drop-off or request a pick-up.

Today's drug prohibition is getting violent criminals off the street - how many are in prison rightRead More now? Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
