Pies & Pints in Middlebury and Woodbury's newest restaurant, Bilda Burger & More, are in the lead for best burger as of Thursday afternoon. Polls close at 9 a.m. Friday, May 18, and the winners are announced on Friday at noon. In its purest form, it's just a beef patty on a bun. But today's burgers are much more complex, with toppings that range from the classic lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard to items that include everything from bacon, mushrooms, jalapenos, avocado, chili or a fried egg. At 8 a.m. Friday, May 18, the new New Morning Market will officially open its doors to the public.
After a long history in town, New Morning Market is moving a short distance down the road from its 738 Main St. South location. Although the projected opening date was Thursday, May 17, the new opening date is Friday, May 18, according to a pre-recorded message on New Morning Market's telephone system. With the start of summer upon us, this Greek wine is perfect for warmer weather.
Memorial Day weekend is coming up fast, also known as the unofficial start of summer. Bill Blore of Nutmeg Wine and Spirit Shoppe picked a warm weather warm to help Patch readers kick off the summer season: Gai'a 14-18h Rosé. The Gai'a website describes the wine and suggests some food pairings: A particularly attractive deep rosé color, a fruity aroma with strong hints of cherry and gooseberry, typical of Agiorgitiko, and light, refreshing flavours characterize the wine. Enjoy it with salt-baked foods, white meat, pizza without garlic and cold plates. It is particularly charming when combined with Chinese and Southeast Asian dishes. In Middlebury, Viso Bello Salon Day Spa and Massage Therapy Center is the favorite, with 71 percent of the vote. The Woodbury Zoning Commission accepted a special permit application for review and scheduled a public hearing.
The Zoning Commission, at its Tuesday, May 8, meeting, accepted the Nilesh Amin/Palmer special permit application for a mental health residential living facility at 280 Middle Road Turnpike. The public hearing will take place at the 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, meeting, in the Shove Conference Room. Funding through the Small Business Express Program will allow Weise Choice Tree Services to add one new job position.
A Middlebury company will receive state economic development aid through a program that Gov. Dannel Malloy credits for helping to reduce Connecticut’s unemployment rate. An article on HartfordBusiness.com reported that Weise Choice Tree Services will receive a $26,000 revolving loan and a $26,260 matching grant through the Small Business Express Program. The funding will allow the company to purchase mobile access software, computers and other equipment, and it is expected to create one new job position.

This week, two winners were crowned for best brunch in Middlebury and Woodbury.
When you're deciding on the perfect place to take mom for her special day this year, perhaps these Readers' Choice picks are the places to be. Mom deserves the best, after all. With 64 percent of the vote, Maples took home the prize, edging out second place winner Junipers Restaurant. Longwood Country Inn in Woodbury received 30 percent of the vote. The Curtis House Inn, Dottie's Diner and the Woodbury Diner were tied for the second spot.
