Savvy Sunday: Smart Uses for Salt

This savvy mineral has a lot to offer.

Besides providing flavor to food, salt has some savvy uses too. The Real Simple website offered the following savvy ways to use salt around the house.

  • Clean up a cracked egg by covering the egg with salt, then wiping up the mess.
  • Dust a faux evergreen or pinecone wreath by putting the wreath in a paper bag with 1/4 a cup of salt. Fold the top of the bag over and gently shake its contents.
  • Remove tea stains on cups by sprinkling salt on a lemon peel and rubbing the lemon peel over the tea stains.
  • Use salt to shine brass and copper. Mix a few tablespoons of white vinegar with equal parts salt and flour to make a paste. Apply the paste with a soft cloth, rinse and then dry.
