Movie Mondays: Best Declarations of Love

This week's Movie Mondays is all about love.

Valentine's Day is a little over a week away, making it a perfect time to share some of the sweetest declarations of love in cinematic history.

Each declaration is different - one is sweetly romantic, one is a bit more extreme and one is unassuming in its simplicity, but equally as charming as the other two.

As always, the videos attached to this article show these declarations of devotion.

Yvaine in "Stardust"

"Stardust" is based on the book with the same name, written by Neil Gaiman. In the movie, Yvaine, played by Claire Danes, is a star that fell from the sky. She says the nicest thing about love, from the perspective of a star.

"You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate... It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves... You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and... What I'm trying to say, Tristan is... I think I love you. Is this love, Tristan? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart... It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange - no gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine." (Yvaine)

"The Wedding Singer"

Adam Sandler's character sweetly sings "I wanna grow old with you" to Drew Barrymore's character, while she's on a plane and -- spoiler alert -- about to marry someone else.

I know I wrote about Barrymore and Sandler in Movie Mondays: Life's a Beach and hesitated to include them again so soon, but the lyrics are swoon-inducing.

"I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad.
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad.
All I wanna do is grow old with you.

I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches.
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks.
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you." (Adam Sandler)

"Rocky II"

Need I really do more than quote the scene at the zoo, when Rocky proposes to Adrian? This lovely scene is so "Rocky and Adrian" - unassuming, quiet and strong.

Rocky: "I was wondering if you wouldn't mind marrying me very much?"

So whether you believe in the grand gesture or the simple declarations of love, may you be inspired by these cinematic moments of sweetness.
